Photo-sharing site Snapchat has been hit by a cyber attack that reportedly exposed the usernames and phone numbers of 4.6 million users.
The data was posted on a website called SnapchatDB.info, which has since been suspended. The hackers censored the last two digits of the phone numbers "in order to minimise spam and abuse", but offered to disclose the uncensored database "under certain circumstances".
In a statement to tech news site TechCrunch, the hackers explained that their motivation behind the attack was to raise public awareness around the issue, and put public pressure on Snapchat to fix the exploit.
