South African President, Jacob Zuma was publicly embarrassed by four protesters - Simamkele Dlakavu, Tinyiko Shikwambane, Naledi Chirwa and Amanda Mavuso, who reminded the public that somewhere in his past lies a rape accusation.

GUARDIAN UK reports that the four women staged a silent protest during Jacob Zuma’s speech at the announcement of the results of South Africa’s municipal elections. They carried placards with 4 different inscriptions : Remember Khwezi - the pseudonym given to the woman who reported being raped by Zuma, Khanga – a sarong or wrap worn by women. Zuma had told the court that the fact the womam was wearing a khanga suggested she wanted to have sex with him, I am 1 in 3 - a reference to the number of South African women subject to sexual violence and 10 years later - the time since Zuma’s aquittal on rape charges.

News24 reports that the protesters want Khwezi - the woman who accused Zuma of rape in 2005 - to be remembered.
