Politics Southern Ijaw: Over 5,000 Police Officers to Storm Bayelsa Ahead of Election

Over 5,000 police men have been deployed to Bayelsa state for the conclusion of the Governorship race in Southern Ijaw Local government, this Saturday.

The Bayelsa governorship election of December 7, 2015 was declared “inconclusive” by the electoral umpire, with Southern Ijaw votes outstanding.

Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has reportedly deployed a deputy inspector general of police, an assistant inspector general of police and three police commissioners to the State for the rerun.

Police sources had also disclosed on Tuesday that over 5, 000 officers, as well as plain-clothes detectives, surveillance helicopter for aerial patrol, gun boats, speed boats and anti-riot personnel from the Mobile Police Unit, will also be on hand in Bayelsa to keep the peace during and after voting.

IGP Arase has also placed a curfew in the State. Movement will be restricted to the hours between 6am to 6pm during the voting exercise.
