Thomas Bach has been elected by the International Olympic Committee to succeed outgoing Jacques Rogge as the President of the IOC.
Rogge’s official duties as the IOC President, ends on Tuesday and the former former fencing gold medallist will now take over from the 71-year-old Belgian, who is stepping down after 12 years in charge of the Sports body.
Bach withstood challenges from Ukrainian Sergey Bubka,Swiss Denis Oswald,Singapore’s Ng Ser Miang,Taiwnese Wu Ching Kuo and Richard Carrion of Puerto Rico to be elected as President.
