Retired Justice Idris Kutigi, chairman of Nigeria’s ongoing national conference, today ordered reporters out of the chambers as delegates began to debate the report of a committee on national security.
The reporters covering the conference were shocked at Mr. Kutigi’s uncouth and disparaging as he ordered them out. The chair of the conference, who in 2009 retired as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, spoke brusquely to the journalists, telling them, “Get out of here, we don't need you, you are a threat to security.”
After exiting the chambers, the reporters later protested the retired justice’s disdainful tone, with some of them threatening to boycott subsequent sittings of the conference.
