The federal government yesterday declared a state of emergency on tomato sub-sector in the country.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Hajia Aisha Abubakar, told newsmen after an important meeting with newsmen.

1. The meeting revealed that 80 per cent of tomato farms have been ravaged by a pest known as tuta absoluta.
2. The meeting was attended by relevant government ministries and regulatory agencies, farmers and tomato processors.
3. A new tomato policy will be developed under the National Industrial Revolution Programme (NIRP).
4. A technical committee that will draft the proposed policy would be inaugurated next week.
5. The report of the committee will be used to draft an approved plan for the next tomato season.
6. One of the reason why the Tomato Ebola persist is the ban on foreign exchange allocation for the importation of tomato concentrate by CBN.
