John Kerry, secretary of state to the US has said that the partial shutdown of the US government (which enters its fifth day today, Saturday) doesn’t change the US’ commitment to dealings in Asia and elsewhere in the world.

This is coming in a news report by The UK Guardian. John Kerry is currently deputizing for President Barack Obama, who has so far had to cut short his tour of Asia and his intended meeting with the Asia-pacific leaders due to the Washington stalemate.

"Do not mistake this momentary episode in American politics as anything more than a moment of politics. This is an example of the robustness of our democracy," Kerry said.

He however agreed that if the shutdown gets long-drawn or repeats itself at a later date, people will begin to question the US ability to “stay the course.”
