The aid the United States will provide to Nigeria to get back nearly 300 kidnapped girls will be limited to helping Nigerians find the village in the remote forest where the girls are being held, experts said Wednesday.
Johnnie Carson, former assistant secretary of State for African Affairs under President Obama, said the United States can offer satellite and air surveillance through drones, as well as bring in military advisers to help units of the Nigerian military.
The Pentagon said it is sending about 10 military personnel as part of a broader U.S. contingent to help Nigeria.
"At this time we're not considering a U.S. operation to help rescue the girls," Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, said. "We're looking at this as a crisis response to a hostage situation."
