The West African Examination Council is set to create special centres for albinos in this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
PUNCH reports that addressing newsmen WAEC Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu, ''The initiative is as a result of the forward-looking approach of the council. We were not pressurised to do it. Schools are still uploading the registration form of their pupils right now and we have made provision on the form for the candidates to indicate any physical challenge. We have been making provision for blind candidates to use Braille and once we have candidates with albinism, we will make provision of a special centre for them.
“I cannot say how many centres we will have across the states because registration is still ongoing. But once we have candidates from a state indicating that he or she is an albino, we shall make special provision for them. Their centres will have the right ventilation and lighting to make sure they are not discriminated against.”
