If you’re an avid Nairaland user, by now you know your favorite forum has been out of commission since Sunday. You’re probably confused and wondering why this has happened. (Click here to see the site stats since Nairaland went down on Sunday)

Nairaland.com is one of Nigeria’s top websites and (TechCabal says) “arguably Africa’s largest forum.” Last year, the website celebrated registering its one millionth member, a formidable figure if you consider that the registered members constitute only a fraction of total visitors to the high-traffic platform. That number has since grown to 1.3 million registered users.

On Sunday, June 22nd, 2014, visitors to the online platform noticed an error message: the CloudFlare Error 522 and a page similar to the screenshot below.

The CloudFlare support website has information related to that type of error which goes: “A 522 error states that CloudFlare could not make a TCP connection to the origin server before the attempts timed out. This means that CloudFlare was unable to send the http request to the origin as no network connection to the origin server could be established.

Common reasons why this can occur include:

· Rate limiting incoming connections fromCloudFlare's IPs.

· A process on the webserver is consuming all of one or more resources at the origin.

· The domain is on a shared hosting platform where traffic or tasks for a separate domain on the same server is taking up one or more resources.

· Network connectivity issues between CloudFlare and the origin web server.” (read more about this troubleshoot here)

Since that time, there has been uproar as users (suffering withdrawal symptoms linked to the unavailability of their favored forum) took to social media (Facebook and Twitter) to harangue Seun Osewa, the owner of Nairaland.com.

Why is Nairaland Down?

The only person who can answer the question above is Seun Osewa himself. Unfortunately, he hasn’t responded to any of the questions left on social media by bothered users.

He has however now tweeted some worrisome tweets, which have peaked the anxiety of his loyal subscribers. The tweets are below:

He also shared an archived link to the Nairaland website which can be viewed here

We hope Nairaland comes back soon.
