23 year old Megan Schmidt from the eastern Iowa city of Dubuque in the US, has been sentenced to jail after she pleaded guilty to using Craiglist to hire someone to kill her father for US$10,000 in June last year.
After getting several responses, Schmidt had asked a man identified as "M.T." what he would do for "that amount of money so I know if we are on the same page".
"Just about anything," M.T. had replied.
She then responded that she wanted her father dead and it would be best to "either shoot or stab him because he is a bigger man".
M.T. contacted police before authorities launched an undercover operation that led to Schmidt's eventual arrest at a local hotel.
US District Judge Linda Reade according to The Cedar Rapids Gazette gave Schmidt an 87-month (7 years) prison term and also ordered her to serve a three-year term of supervised release following her jail stint.
