On Tuesday, Zimbabwe’s lawmakers reportedly went into a heated exchange of words in the House of Assembly with Zanu-PF blaming sanctions for the looming food shortages in the country.
Zimbabwe started experiencing serious food deficits over a decade ago after President Robert Mugabe embarked on a violent land reform programme in which over 3,00o white farmers were evicted from their farms.
According to News Day, Legislators from the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), blamed the chaotic land reform exercise as the biggest threat to the country’s food security.
A report recently released by the Zimbabwe Vulnerability Assessment Committee revealed that at least 2.2 million Zimbabweans faced hunger and that they would need food assistance early next year.
The committee also revealed that 1.5 million people were food insecure.
