Nigeria’s Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered an investigation into bribery allegations within the Nigerian Correctional Service. The claims arose from a viral video where Bobrisky allegedly confessed to bribing officials to evade her prison sentence. The ministry promises a transparent investigation and vows consequences for those involved.
Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has initiated a full-scale investigation into claims of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). This action follows accusations made by social media personality Bobrisky, in which she reportedly stated in a viral video that she bribed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials with ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against her.
Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, was released on August 5 after being sentenced to six months in prison for currency abuse. In the video, she alleged that through the influence of her "godfather" and Haliru Nababa, the NCoS Controller General, she served her sentence in a private apartment rather than a prison cell.
However, Bobrisky later denied these allegations, claiming the viral recording was fabricated. She insisted that she fulfilled her prison sentence as required by law. Following these claims, the EFCC called in both Bobrisky and activist VeryDarkMan, who shared the video, for further questioning.
Minister Tunji-Ojo expressed his condemnation of the alleged misconduct and vowed to ensure those involved would face the full consequences if found guilty. He tasked the ministry's permanent secretary, Magdalene Ajani, with leading the investigation. The minister reassured the public that the probe would be thorough, transparent, and focused on upholding the integrity of the nation's correctional services.
