Monday Okpebholo, the newly elected governor of Edo State, expressed gratitude to Senate President Godswill Akpabio by kneeling before him after winning the gubernatorial election. Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the PDP. The APC triumphed in 11 of 18 local government areas in Edo.
In a heartfelt display of gratitude, Monday Okpebholo, the newly elected governor of Edo State, was seen kneeling before Senate President Godswill Akpabio shortly after his electoral victory. The gesture took place during a visit to Edo following Saturday's gubernatorial elections, where Okpebholo won the race under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 291,667 votes, defeating his closest opponent, Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes.
Okpebholo's success can be attributed in part to Akpabio's significant support in securing the APC candidacy. Initially, the former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, had endorsed Dennis Idahosa, a sitting House of Representatives member, for the APC ticket. However, Okpebholo ultimately emerged as the party's candidate, with Idahosa serving as his running mate.
