The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna has declared the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna state inconclusive. During the resumed proceedings, the tribunal, in a split decision of 2:1, announced the election inconclusive and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days. The 3-member panel, led by Justice Victor Oviawe, ordered a rerun of the election in 24 polling units across seven wards in four local governments, involving 16,300 registered voters.
The verdict was delivered via Zoom, with the judges choosing not to convene in a physical hall.
The petition was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Isah Mohammed Ashiru. PDP's Ashiru contested the election of Uba Sani as the Governor of Kaduna State, alleging irregularities and electoral fraud and claiming that their candidate, Isa Mohammed Ashiru, had won the election.
This decision by the tribunal marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the Kaduna gubernatorial election
