The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Borno, on Thursday, said 41 people died in 313 road accidents from January to December 2013 in the state.
The corps Commandant in the state, Mr Abbah Bazza, made the disclosure at the inauguration and swearing of NURTW executive members of the Borno Heavy Trucks Central Branch in Maiduguri.
Bazza said 182 people sustained severe injuries, while 90 persons were unhurt.
He added that the FRSC had in the last 90 days arrested 813 persons for various road offences.
The commandant noted that 6,312 people had so far obtained new driver’s licence, while 2,791 obtained the new number plate.
He urged the National Union of Road Transport Workers to sensitise its members on dangers of over-speeding and driving a vehicle with bad tyres.
He advised motorists to attend the corps’ driving school every last Saturday of the month free of charge.
Alhaji Bello Muhammad, the Chairman, Borno NURTW, said the heavy trucks inaugurated by the NURTW was to facilitate the movement of goods between Borno and other African countries.
Muhammad said the union would soon inaugurate the Borno Township Motorist Union (BTMU) to check every vehicle coming into Borno.
According to him, the aim is to safeguard people against attacks by members of the Boko Harram.
He attributed most accidents to bad roads and urged all tiers of government to rehabilitate the roads.
