Business About 600, 000 Nigerians Joined Labour Market In 2nd Quarter 2015

A total number of 574,498 active people joined the labour market in the second quarter of 2015 according to report from National Bureau of Statistics. This represents a 0.18% increase in the number of people available for work in the country.

According to the report, the figures increased from 102.8 million in the first quarter to 103.5million in the second quarter. Therefore, the labour force population which includes those within the working age increased from 73.4 million in the first quarter to 73.4 million in the first quarter.

The report also stated that the total number of people in full employment (those working at least 40 hours) decreased by 1,317,700. This decrease is due to either job losses or that the previously fully employed persons chose to work or are forced to work on part-time basis.

The 574,498 people who are within the ages of 15 – 64 are those who are able and actively willing to work between April 1 and June 30, 2015. The report also has it that the number of women that were unemployed during the period was higher than that of males.
