There are reports that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP will be fielding a Muslim candidate in the Adamawa state bye-elections while Bala Ngilari who was the deputy to Impeached Governor Murtala Nyako will be returning to his former position from which he reportedly resigned.
According to NATIONAL MIRROR, a source who spoke anonymously said, "From all indications, we have viewed the situation and we are convinced that for the state to have peace we must as a matter of urgency and expediency work out an arrangement for a Muslim governor if only to shame critics that we have removed a Muslim governor.
"As it stands, the party is looking at the possibility of having a Muslim governor to succeed Nyako just as the deputy, Ngilari is being considered to return to his position for his loyalty to the party. We are trying to avoid any use of sentiment against our party"
Aspirants currently been considered include,Senator Abubakar Halilu Girie from the Central senatorial district and Hon Auwal Tukur, the son of the former National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur also from the Central senatorial district, Dr Ahmed Modibbo (Central), Senator Bello Tukur (Central) who served as deputy to Governor Boni Haruna for eight years and was later the Chief of Staff to Nyako and elected senator in 2011, Honourable Ahmadu Umar Fintiri (former speaker and acting governor (North), Dr Umar Ardo (South) Brig. General Buba Marwa (North).
However, two non Muslims have also shown interest. They are Hon Jerry Kundusi (Central) and Engr. Markus Gundiri (Central).
