The Benue state House of Assembly was on Tuesday taken over by over 30 armed security men who mounted a thorough search of personnel going into the assembly.
The assembly had been embroiled in a crisis following the suspension of a member of the assembly, Kester Kyenge, over allegations of a N750m car fraud.
According to reports, the security men also went round offices chasing out whoever had no business in the complex. It's said that they were acting on the instruction of the Speaker, Terkimbir Ikyange, The Nation reports.
While this was on, the lawmakers were in an executive session for over three hours, with the suspended Kester Kyenge in attendance.
According to Vanguard, some aggrieved APC and PDP youths also arrived at the assembly but their action was checkmated by the security men.
House Committee Chairman on Information, Ben Ngutyo, explained that the security measure is to forestall any criminal act, especially in the face of insecurity in the state.
