Sports Arsenal unable to go top of the league after 0-0 draw with Man Utd

Arsenal and Manchester United played out a drab 0-0 draw at the Emirates stadium as none of them could find a way to breach each other's defence.

With both teams looking for an inspiration following a weekend where they dropped points,it was expected that they would go for it to secure maximum points.

Arsenal had an opportunity to go back top of the league if they had won, which was a big incentive for them considering that Chelsea drew on Tuesday and Manchester City's game was postponed.

First real chance of the game fell to former Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie as early as the first minute, who pounced on an error by Mikel Arteta but shot back directly at Wojciech Szczesny, missing a glorious one-on-one situation.

At the other end of the pitch,Olivier Giroud headed wide after some poor play by Nemanja Vidic.

Van Persie had another chance after Juan Mata slipped through a pass to the Dutchman, but he wasted his chance to find the net.

The game continued like that lacking adventures and purpose into the second half. But the tempo was stepped up one bit.

Van Persie forced Szczesny to a spectacular save, which the Polish keeper parried off,and Santi Cazorla on the end equally made David De Gea pull up a great save.

Giroud spurned some chances that fell to him, failing to hit the bull's eye as he endured another frustrating night.

Arsenal failed to capitalise on Chelsea's 1-1 draw with West Brom, and the table remained unchanged, but City could move up against them if they win their outstanding game against Sunderland.

Results:
Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
Everton P-P Crystal Palace
Man City P- P Sunderland
Newcastle 0-4 Tottenham
Stoke 1-1 Swansea
Fulham 2-3 Liverpool
