The leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on Tuesday disrupted proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja while protesting the court's decision to shield witnesses in his trial.
A visible angry Kanu rose up in the dock to challenge the decision of the court, insisting that he will never allow himself to be subjected to the trial.
"Buhari went on national television to accuse me in public and he wants to try me in secret. I will not allow myself to be subjected to this kind of trial," he fumed.
To calm tempers, Justice Binta Nyako adviced defence counsel to dialogue with their clients for 10 minutes before being taken away.
But Kanu and the other defendants continued to protest vehemently.
"By the time I am through with my testimony there will be no Nigeria. What kind of secret trial. This is not a Sharia Court but common law court."
Kanu was charged alongside Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi on charges of treasonable felony and terrorism.
In the fresh 11-count charges, they were also accused of belonging to an illegal society and operating an unlicensed radio station.
Earlier, Justice Nyako had agreed with counsel to the federal government, to shield witnesses from the public during the trial.
The case was adjourned to January 10, 2017.
