Barcelona have ensured that they finished up the needed job against Manchester City to qualify for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Tata Martino's side beat City 2-1 on the night to go through 4-1 on aggregate over both legs

Barceona were unlucky not have had a penalty given in their favour after Joleon Lescott fouled Lionel Messi in the box.

Also the Blaguaranas found themselves hard done by,with Neymar's goal incorrectly ruled out for an offside.

City endured Barcelona's onslaught and restricted them from further going behind, knowing they had a two-goal deficit to cancel.

Neymar intelligently turned the ball with his head, leaving Alexander Kolarov on the floor, but the Brazilian couldn't place the ball beyond Joe Hart.

Samir Nasri had Manchester City's best chance on the half,Yaya Toure floated in a ball to David Silva in the box who immediately flicked it on with his backheel to the Frenchman.

However,Nasri should have done better other than shooting directly to Victor Valdes which was easy for the Barcelona goalkeeper.

City had their coach Manuel Pellegrini sitting in the stands,as he is serving a two-match touchline ban for the comments he made in the first leg.

Edin Dezko was thrown in the fray at the start of the second half to replace Sergio Aguero, who was less effective in the match.

Barcelona almost went one goal up at the start of the second half,Lescott was caught in possession and Messi raced towards goal. Drifting inside with his favourite left foot,Messi's shot rebounded off the post to save Lescott's blushes.

Moments later City almost scored the opener through Dzeko whose looping header was smartly tipped over by Valdes.

City had another good chance to which fell to Pablo Zabaleta, but he missed the opportunity to put his side up.

Then Messi showed them how to do it in the 67th minute, capitalising yet again from an error by Lescott who failed to clear the ball properly after Cesc Fabregas slipped through a pass.

The Argentine stole in and with a deft touch chipped the ball past the onrushing Hart for the goal.

It was a deflating goal as City were left with a bigger mountain to climb.
Referee failed to give City a penalty, with Gerrard Pique appearing to have clipped Dzeko from behind.

The incident got City players infuriated and they surrounded the referee, with Zabaleta getting himself sent off for dissent.

Vincent Kompany did guide one into the net for City, though there are questions whether he was off or not.

Looking to at least get a draw at the Camp Nou,City bottled it deep in stoppage time . Dani Alves just like he did at the Etihad staduim, finished up a nicely done work from Andres Iniesta who rounded Hart and Alves did justice to the ball.

The former winners of the Champions League will now join: Atletico Madrid,Bayern and PSG in the quarter-finals of the competition.
