The race for the Edo state governorship seat has begun with the two major political parties, All Progressives Congress and the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party.

The ruling party in Edo state has fielded Godwin Obaseki, who is the pioneering and current Chairman of the Edo State Economic and Strategy Team inaugurated by Governor Adams Oshiomhole in March 2009.

He began his career over 30 years ago and has established track records in Investment Banking, Asset Management, Securities Trading and the Public Sector both internationally and in Nigeria. He started out in 1983 with Capital Trust Brokers Limited Lagos as a stockbroker where he excelled and subsequently worked with International Merchant Bank (an affiliate of First Chicago Bank).

While Peoples' Democratic Party's candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is a Nigerian politician, Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, former Chief of Staff and Secretary to Edo State Government.

Ize Iyamu was once a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Vice Chairman, South-South Zone of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

He also served as the Director General of Adams Oshiomhole’s 2nd term Campaign Organisation.

Till September 10th, 2016, when people of Edo state will cast the ballot to elect a credible leader that will succeed Governor Adams Oshiomhole, let the BATTLE begin........!

In the real sense of it, both parties have issues. Edo APC is divided against itself -- with some aggrieved parties laying claims to an electronically-manipulated Primary results for Obaseki's victory. Ize-Iyamu is being quizzed by EFCC over N700m illicit campaign funds he collected to prosecute the re-election of former President Goodluck Jonathan (which he denied anyway), but may later shoot him in the leg. Well, let's see where it ends...

Whatever the case may be, it's going to be an interesting election.

I won't be surprised if the Pastor is invited to come preach at EFCC chapel in the near future.
