The Independent National Electoral Commission in Edo state has commenced the withdrawal of its card readers and non-sensitive materials, following the postponement of the governorship election to September 28.
INEC, on September 8, announced the postponement of the governorship election in Edo, originally fixed for September 10, citing security reasons.
INEC’s Assistant Director on Voter Education and Publicity in Edo State, Mrs. Priscilla Sule, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Benin on Monday.
Sule said the withdrawal of the card readers from the 18 Local Government Areas of the state was to enable the commission reconfigure the machines ahead of the September 28 election.
