Nigeria’s former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged African leaders to invest more in education sector as a basic empowerment tool for youth development and faster economic growth on the continent.

Obasanjo, founder of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, spoke while presenting a position of the African Youth at a luncheon of AU Heads of State in Addis Ababa.

It was part of the sidelines of events for the on-going 22nd Assembly of Heads of State and Government .

The African Youth Forum was earlier organised by the UAC Department of the Human Resource Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF), with a theme accelerating youth employment in Africa.

Obasanjo said African countries had witnessed tremendous economic growth over the recent years but youth unemployment and education were still pressing issues that needed to be addressed by policy makers and African leaders.

He said the fast growth of the continent would be accelerated by greater investment in educating the youth in sciences and technology.

Obasanjo urged leaders to massively invest in the sector for faster growth and as a way of addressing unemployment on the continent.

Speaking at the occasion, AUC Chairperson, Dr. Dlamini Zuma, assured that the Heads of States have heard the youth messages and ``I am sure that they will dialogue with you''.

``We want you to be the masters of the digital age; the masters of the space age; the masters of the knowledge age, and the masters of the economy age.''

The President of Haiti, Mr. Michel Martelly and the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Mr. Dessalegn Hailemariam, attended the event that attracted youth leaders from across Africa
