Senator Dino Melaye during a closed senate session has suggested the suspension of senators testifying against Bukola Saraki, Ike Ekweremadu and other senate principal officers in the ongoing forgery case, Premium Times reports.

Senators Kabiru Marafa, Suleiman Hunkuyi, Ahmed Lawan, Ajayi Borofice, Gbenga Ashafa and Abdullahi Gumel are among the witnesses to testify against Saraki and Ekweremadu.

According to Sen. Melaye, their action is capable of causing irreparable damage to the sanctity and integrity of the national assembly.

The only way they could deflect suspension was for the lawmakers to cease being a witnesses to the prosecutor and withdraw their case entirely, Melaye said, adding that their punishment will serve as a deterrent to others.

Saraki however reminded Mr. Melaye that a committee (headed by David Mark) had already been set up and was expected to submit its findings to the Senate for action.
