According to a report from National Mirror, the fuel scarcity situation in Lagos and other Nigerian cities are getting worse.

This is as a result of the inability of oil marketers to embark on importation, the report says, adding that only the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and a few other companies have the capacity to import fuel into the nation.

As a result, the country has limited stocks to meet demand, currently estimated at 40 million liters per day.

It was also learnt that the situation is worsened by some challenges at the depots and jetties, including the inability of tanker drivers to move freely at Apapa, Lagos where the jetties are located.

A survey showed that long fuel queues which had virtually disappeared a few days ago have emerged in Lagos and its environs.

Our Correspondent noticed that illegal operators who charge arbitrary prices have also emerged in the area.

However, NNPC has advised residents from panic buying, saying it has sufficient stock of petrol at its coastal depots in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Calabar besides the stock it holds in the national strategic reserves.
