Portugal even with their talisman,Cristiano Ronaldo ended up losing their first game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The current world player of the year failed to inspire or lift his side when the chips were down for the Portuguese.

Thomas Muller was the star of the show after getting his first international hat-trick for Germany in the game against Portugal.

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels got the other goal for Joachim Loew's team, leaping up to head in the second goal of the game.

The result was never in doubt on which side it was going but the Germans would have Pepe to thank after he got himself sent off for a rush of blood in his head.

The Real Madrid defender Pepe was shown a straight red card after an altercation with Muller that result in him headbutting the opponent in the first half.

If it was ever in doubt that Portugal gets going with Ronaldo, tonight's match was evident that they all look up to him.

With concerns over his fitness level coming into the match,Ronaldo was not top notch in the game, failing to get the right accuracy in all the free-kicks that he took, only troubling Manuel Neuer with the last one he took.

Germany would have had as much as six or seven goals, with Mario Goetze and Mesut Ozil missing vital chances to score

But the top accolade goes to Muller, who scored a hat-trick on his 50th appearance for Germany, his 20th goal and 8th in the World Cup at just 24 years of age.
