Nigeria - Following complaints from different sectors of the country, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has reduced the electricity tariff of the nation by 50%, Premium Times reports.
Chairman of the Commission, Sam Amadi, who announced the review in Abuja, said the reduction will take effect from the end of March.
Mr. Amadi said the approval of the multi-year tariff order, MYTO 2.1 in January 1, 2015, had resulted in astronomical increases in tariff across the different consumer categories, which attracted several complaints and petitions against the decision, especially from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.
According to him, consumers had cited the negative impact of their increased tariffs, which they said were threatening their businesses, leading to massive job losses.
