A court in Islamabad granted bail to former military leader Pervez Musharraf, his lawyer said Monday, in a case related to his role in the 2007 siege of a mosque where the army fought militants holed up inside the compound.
"We were expecting this decision," Afshan Adil, a lawyer on Musharraf's defense team, told reporters outside the court in the capital. "The bail has been given on merit."
Wajid Ali Shah, the judge, granted bail to the former president during a hearing. The trial in the Red Mosque case will start next Monday, Adil said.
