Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar of Zamfara State in a recent interview with Nigerian Tribune described the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP as a "group of toothless bulldogs that can only bark and not bite".

Responding to questions on issues bordering 2015 elections the governor said, "No amount of propaganda or blackmail will give PDP an edge over the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara".

Speaking further he said, "I see the statement as a futile effort of Jonathan and his party to see Zamfara as one of the states that will become their own. How sure is the PDP that they will even return to Aso Rock after the 2015 general elections? They should forget about presidential influence. The fact remains that Nigerians are tired of their unending promises. Fifteen years of democracy, basic amenities like water, electricity and housing, and even jobs are still elusive among the poor. Yet, every day, thousands of innocent Nigerians are killed, all in the name of terrorism and banditry".

The governor also said that it will be impossible for the PDP to rig the election rigging security personnels, "I don’t think that will work because people across the country have been pushed to the wall. The security personnel themselves know about the supremacy of the people’s power. Look at what happened across the Arab countries recently, otherwise known as the ‘Arab spring.’ Is it not the power of the people that prevailed? So, I want to see how manipulation of the people’s will be done. You see, I don’t believe our security agencies will allow the government in power to manipulate the process and cause what might lead to the disintegration of the country.

"Next year, the world’s attention will be focused on how we will conduct our elections because some analysts have already predicted that the country would cease to exist in 2015. So, people will watch and see whether Nigeria will cease to be or it will remain. But I think our security agencies will stop at nothing to ensure that the country remains as one, indivisible entity. Everything humanly possible to protect the good citizens of the country, as contained in the constitution, will be pursued by them.

"And if you are talking of INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) changing the results of elections, that one too cannot work, because people have adopted the idea of vote-wait-escort (VWE) at polling stations. So, any attempt to tamper with the outcomes of elections will be resisted by the electorate. Apart from that, I don’t think the INEC boss will like to be connected to something that will bring shame to the commission.

On the insecurity in the North, Abubakar said, "Unless genuine efforts are made to end this insecurity, the country may soon be facing another war.
