The Northern Governors Forum (NGF) has called on Christians to use the Easter period to pray for the quick resolution of the security challenges currently confronting the nation.

The forum’s Chairman and Governor of Niger, Dr Babangida Aliyu, in an Easter message released on Saturday in Minna called on Nigerians to continue to work for peace, the prime essence of Christ’s resurrection.

The message, contained in a statement signed by Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo, said that terrorism was alien to Nigeria's culture and urged all Nigerians to work together to end the killing of defenseless citizens.

The forum also urged Christians to imbibe the ideals of perseverance, sacrifice and commitment to the will of God which characterised the Lenten season.

It congratulated Christians and all Nigerians that had been spared to witness the festivity and reminded them of the transient nature of life and the need for them to keep the faith at all times.

"We must always remember that we are alive today by God’s grace and favour and not that we are any better than many that had been killed,'' he said.

The statement reiterated the need for Nigerians to pray for, and work toward peace, stability and progress, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to support their leaders at all levels.
