The United States of America, USA has promised to offer Nigeria greater help with fighting boko haram insurgency if the February elections are not postponed; THE NATION reports.

The US made the promise during a daily briefing on Thursday by deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State, Marie Harf.

The US said, ''We certainly provide a great amount of assistance to Nigeria when it comes to the fight against Boko Haram. Well, we certainly have, as the United States, provided assistance to help in this fight, and you heard the Secretary when he was in Nigeria say we want to do more to help the Nigerians.

''Part of that depends upon them going forward with the elections as scheduled, holding them – limiting the violence, having credible and fair elections. So we certainly believe this is a critical challenge. Boko Haram is a little bit of a different threat than ISIS. Obviously, each threat is different, but we’re very committed to helping the countries in the region fight this.

''Well, I clearly think if you just look at the sheer amount of violence that Boko Haram has been able to perpetrate that there needs to be more capacity and more willingness among some of the parties.
Some of the – there’ve been some times when people have stepped up and really tried to be aggressive against Boko Haram, but clearly more needs to be done,” she added.

Sir,
I thought Nigeria was the one turning down the offer?
Besides Nigeria was well aware of the Boko Haram, yet they fixed a date for election. Now they say they wanna postpone the election because even in PDP rally you hear their supporters say "Sai Buhari "Lol"?

That was my impression as well... but let us not forget that we were banned from buying arms by the Americans as well. So the relationship was not great. But now that Africans have to support our stretched army, we are getting an offer for help. I am sure regardless of the president of Nigeria, we can be economically and politically convinced to take help offered by the US. I do not buy the story of we did not ask for help.

US is one of our silent enemies under the leadership of Obama. Obama should leave us alone and concentrate on fighting ISIS. His country men are already bullying him on his inability to proactively confront the terror group like the king of Jordan is currently doing with his armies.

But King of Jordan will not be posing without the US and UK support. The lack of support we have from the US is down to our own lobbying against us e.g. briefing on human right abuses by army and having a strong lobby group in Washington.

Everybody needs friends at a time like this.

US help don't come without conditions. We are the ones that gave these insurgents a breading space. We've handled them with too much sympathy, treating them as brothers when they are real gruesome enemies.
