Metro Yobe Emirates Council Suspends 2 Village Heads For Diverting IDPs Food

Two Village Heads and one Sarkin Fulani have been suspended by the Emirate council in Yobe state over the diversion of food meant for Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, in Buni-Yadi in the state.

Gujba Emirate Council of Yobe State cited nonchalant attitude, indiscipline and breach of trust in the handling of food materials meant for the IDPs in Buni Yadi as reasons for the suspension.

In a letter signed by the secretary of Gujba Emirate Council, Mohammed Ali Yusuf and obtained by The Nation, the Village Head of Hausari, Lawan Alhaji Hassan, the village Head of Ngomari, Lawan Ngawari and the Sarkin Fulani of Gujba Alhaji Haro have been suspended.

The letter reads in part: “I am directed to write and serve you with a letter of suspension. This followed your nonchalant attitude and act of indiscipline involving breach of the trust and confidence reposed in you, by diverting food items donated by Government for distribution to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Buni Yadi.

“The Emirate Council has expressed dismay over your misconduct and has future directed me to inform you that you have been suspended from your post.

“In view of the above, you are therefore directed to keep away from the Emirate activities for the period of one month, pending the outcome of the Emirate Council meeting and subsequent resolution please,” the letters read.

The council also sent a letter to the Gujba Local Government Chairman informing him of the decision of the emirate, while warning the general public not to engage in any business with the suspended Chiefs.
