The Anambra state government has commenced the homegrown school feeding program, in which primary school children will get a free meal every day, courtesy of the government.

- A sum of N53, 687, 900 had been released directly to cooks for the kick-off of the school feeding programme in Anambra, to last till the end of the current school term.
- An estimated 76, 690 pupils in 1,050 schools would be served every day of school in Anambra State. The feeding programme caters for pupils from Primaries 1-3.
- A total of 774 Cooks have already been recruited and trained for the feeding programme in Anambra State.
- All the cooks were recruited from communities around the primary schools for the program, verified and trained to provide the catering services in the 21 Local Government Areas in the State. This means Local jobs too.
- Ingredients are bought locally, putting some money in the pockets of farmers, thereby, boosting the economy of the state.
