The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday said it would continue to uphold the sanctity of democratic institutions in the country.

Reacting to what it called ceaseless attacks by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the judiciary, executive and legislature, the PDP said the APC's actions were meant to terminate democracy.

A statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Olisa Metuh, accused the APC of promoting political nihilism.

"Wherever the APC is drawing this inspiration or motivation is surely far from the continent of democracy and right within the conclave of dictatorship,’’ Metuh said.

According to him, the APC was doing everything to scuttle the country's democracy.

He further expressed worry on what he termed as the APC's attempt to blackmail the judiciary over the recent ruling on PDP members of the House of Representatives who defected to APC, and the suspension of Rivers Chief Judge by the National Judicial Council. This, he said,"clearly gave away the simmering impatience of the APC with the democratic order.

"Nigerians had expected the acclaimed champions of democracy to quietly exploit the appeal option instead of resorting to statements meant to promote civil disobedience and lawlessness", Metuh added.
