Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state today spoke in support of Girl-child education at the Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja.
The governor also castigated child marriage which is common in his region – North Ease Nigeria. Addressing the Summit, Governor Shettima said, ‘’ Education is one game changer. Access to Western Education is what can transform the lot of a people.’’

"I am sorry, but our men are irresponsible. How can you go and marry a 13yr old girl. Let us educate the girl child. Our men are very irresponsible. They send out their wives in favor of under-aged girls,’’ the Governor said.
On Gender equality, Governor Shettima said, ''We are putting the ownership of houses in Borno in both the women & men's names. So the women are empowered.''
