All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate Major-General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of importing 80,000 rifles to rig the April 21 election for President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.

Buhari’s counsel Chief Mike Ahamba, (SAN), made the allegation at yesterday’s proceedings on his clients petition against the election of Yar’Adua and his Vice, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

He said Obasanjo imported the 80,000 rifles in fulfillment of his declaration that the election were a "do-or-die affair."

Obasanjo, he claimed, deliberately deployed the army to assist Yar’Adua in winning the election.

Yar’adua was the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election. He was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Buhari subsequently filed a petition at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal challenging the victory of Yar’adua and his vice, Dr Goodluck Jonathan at the polls.

He joined Obasanjo as one of the respondents in the petition. But the former President filed a motion questioning the rationale for his being joined as a respondent in the petition.
