In May, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal commenced its sitting, featuring a five-man panel of justices presiding over petitions concerning the 2023 presidential election. Five political parties, including the PDP, LP, APP, APM, and AA, had filed separate petitions seeking to annul Bola Tinubu's victory.
The panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, will deliberate and possibly vote on the final judgment when it is delivered. However, this decision isn't final, as any aggrieved party can still appeal to the Supreme Court.
The justices presiding over the tribunal are as follows:
- Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani: Born in 1959, he hails from Bauchi State. Justice Tsammani has spent half of his 24 years as a judge on the Court of Appeal bench, where he was elevated in July 2010.
- Justice Stephen Adah: Born in 1957 in Kogi State, he has been a judge of the Court of Appeal since November 5, 2012. Justice Adah presides over the Asaba Division of the Court of Appeal.
- Justice Mistura Bolaji-Yusuf: The only female member of the panel, she was appointed to the Court of Appeal on March 24, 2014. Justice Bolaji-Yusuf hails from Oyo State.
- Justice Boloukuoromo Ugo: The youngest judge on the panel at 57, he hails from Bayelsa State. Justice Ugo was appointed to the Court of Appeal on March 24, 2021.
- Justice Abba Mohammed: Born on February 19, 1961, Justice Mohammed is from Kano State. He was promoted to the Court of Appeal on June 28, 2021, after serving as a judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.
