A Burundian, Aisha Uwimana, has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for trafficking substances found to be heroin.
A statement by the NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said Uwimana was caught at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport with 2.390 kilogrammes of heroin hidden in her hand luggage. She had boarded Rwanda Air from Burundi into Nigeria.
According to Mr. Hamzar Umar, the NDLEA Airport Commander, “A Burundian by name, Aisha Uwimana, had in her hand luggage two parcels of powdery substance that tested positive for heroin weighing 2.390kg. The case is under investigation.”
The suspect claims that the packages were given to her by her Nigerian boyfriend who brought them from Tanzania.
