Travelling with children can be a challenge in many ways. It can equally be fun if you apply yourself to some useful information about the safety of your children while on a trip, and how to make the best of the journey for everyone on the road. If you are travelling with up to young three or four children, the experience might almost be like taking a herd of wild goats on a holiday.

But there is nothing to fear if you’re able to apply the following dos and don’ts while travelling with your children –

The dos of travelling with children

i. Be ready for a lot of stops. You must be aware that children are not always conscious of your time restraints and like to waste time staring at every fascinating thing or scene, while also throwing tantrums if you do not get them what they need in time. Be also ready to make a lot of toilet stops.

ii. Pack enough sandwiches and snacks. You must know that children love eating at all times, and they actually value snacks and sandwiches more than real food. So get a lot of biscuits, can juice, water bottles, and other light food handy in case your children demand for food in a place far from restaurants.

iii. Pack enough clothes for your kids: You must be aware of weather conditions where you are going and where you are at every point in time, so as to have the required clothing that will better protect your children. Whether winter or fall, your children need protective clothes against cold and light ones during heat periods.

iv. Pack toys and entertainment media with you. If your children are still very small, then you must not forget to pack their toys since they will need to occupy themselves with these during long journeys. If they are a bit older, then an iPad or iPod or a mobile gaming device and a digital camera would keep them occupied on the journey, and a music or movie player would also be useful during the trip.

v. Vaccinate your children. Children must be properly vaccinated before they leave for another state or country so as to protect them against infections such as diarrhea, cough, cold, vomiting, fever, malaria, and other minor or severe health conditions.

vi. Train your children against straying from the group. You must warn your kids never to leave the family or leave the car for any reason if parents are not there. In fact, you can invest in a child locator if you need to do this to keep close tabs on them at busy airports, local markets, railway stations and other public places. And warn them to be wary of strangers.

i. Do not allow your children to wander off on their own. If you are in another state or foreign country, your children must not be allowed to wander off on their own in order to explore local markets or airports or seasides.

ii. Warn your children against pressing buttons indiscriminately. Children like to press colourful buttons or pull levers anywhere they see one; you must warn them against this. They must not press buttons or pull levers at airports, in the car, on the plane, on the elevator and in supermarkets to avoid accidents.

iii. Children must not be left alone in the car or in your hotel room. Do not ever leave your children alone in the car or in your hotel room while you go shopping or visiting the salon – even when they are sleeping. This could be dangerous when they wake up in your absence or when a stranger observes what you did. And do not leave your child on a balcony unattended.

iv. Do not forget the children medicines at home. Even though you have vaccinated your children against infections, you must never forget their medications at home while going on a trip – especially if any of the kids has asthma or some other allergy.

v. Do not allow your children to pack themselves. Kids tend to take a lot of unnecessary favorites with them if you allow them to pack alone. They take all their toys, pack all fossils, take all the assignments and what-have-you when you do not supervise their packing or check their luggage after packing.

vi. Do not forget seat belts and baby car seats if you have infants with you. You children must be protected according to the laws of your country of destination to avoid running into troubles with the local authorities. Observe proper use of seat belts, toilet practices, and other public etiquettes where you go.
