The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Edo State Wing, in a communiqué signed by the duo of Comrade Mike Osagioduwa Uhunmwangho, the state chairman and Comrade Akin Adeojo, the state secretary has served Edo State government a notice of a fresh strike, which may commence after the 14th of February.

They reminded the state government that teachers merely suspended their last strike in the state so as to allow for an amicable resolution of their unpaid salary arrears that accumulated between July and November last year.

“That Edo State Government should urgently pay the arrears of July to November, 2013 10.5 per cent TSA balance to all primary school teachers not later than 14th February, 2014; failure of which, the union would resume her earlier suspended indefinite strike action of July 10th, 2013; come Monday 17th February, 2014.”

The union according to National Mirror particularly urged the Edo state government to act quickly and fulfill its promise to set up a committee of stakeholders to review the cases of the over 836 primary school teachers who were disengaged from service in December “in order to have them return to work as done in Oyo and Ondo states.”
