Indications has emerged that former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Top supporters of the former governor at a meeting held at his house in Sokoto on Saturday allegedly told him to find another party for them or else they would leave him in the APC and go to any other party.
Bafarawa’s media aide, Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi said it all started when the former governor entered the venue of the meeting and his supporters started chanting pro-PDP slogans, much to Bafarawa’s chagrin.
He added that Bafarawa’s supporters, who were unanimous in their decision, told him pointblank that they preferred PDP.
“Apparently surprised at the decision, Bafarawa asked them where did they want him to take them to and they said they preferred PDP,” he explained.
He said Bafarawa then urged the supporters to give him time to consult with his other supporters in the 23 local government areas of the state.
The former governor last Thursday after his investiture as the grand patron of the Chattered Institute of Loans and Risk management of Nigeria, said he was in politics because of people and that he would do whatever his people required of him to do.
