Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State on Monday when he received the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the 2015 general elections in one day.
According to him, this was the only option that will ensure the conduct of transparent elections in the country.
“If that is not possible, let the elections be started with the House of Assembly, followed by the governorship election and National Assembly election while the Presidential election should come last," he said.
He said it was only by so doing that there would be free, fair and credible elections that would usher in democratically elected representatives of the people.
“It is only free, fair and transparent elections that will meet the desire of Nigerians to have leaders that will respect their yearnings and aspirations,’’ he said.
Earlier, Ambassador Entwistle called on Nigerians to shun violence, to have free, fair and credible elections that would ensure democratic governance in the country.
He said that the U.S. would support the country to achieve transparent elections in 2015.
