According to the Chairman of Senate Committee on Higher Education, Senator Binta Masi Garba, the N10 billion padding reported to be discovered in the education budget is a typographical error.

According to her, the money was meant for the Universal basic Education Commission and the office of the National Planning and Budget made the typo error.

The Senate Committee on Education last week at the 2016 budget defence had noted that it uncovered about N10 Billion hidden in the budget of parastatals by the Federal Ministry of Education.

The senator however said since the committee came on board, they had seen a lot of acts that needed to be amended to enable free flow on the quality of education in the country.

“For us to find ourselves out of where we found ourselves in Nigeria, education is the bedrock of development and if education is not given the rightful footing in budgeting then definitely we will have a problem.”

She spoke on Tuesday in Abuja after the commissioning of Federal University, Lafia’s connection to Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) in inter-conference programme in National Universities Commission (NUC).
