The Ondo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC yesterday issued a press release claiming that President Goodluck Jonathan helped Governor Olusegun Mimiko win a second term so the Governor will defect to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to THIS DAY in a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Abayomi Adesanya, in Akure, the APC said, "the news of the defection of Governor Mimiko to the PDP did not come as a surprise to some of us. He has been hobnobbing with the PDP at the national level for a very long time, even though, he has no good relationship with the state chapter.
"He (Mimiko) has succeeded in using the President Goodluck Jonathan to win his second term in office with a promise to join the PDP three months after being sworn in. But since he was sworn in in February last year, he has been playing hanky-panky with Jonathan and the PDP.
"He had wanted to use and dump the president and the PDP who helped him to win his second term in office because that is what he is known for, but with the steadfastness of the Adamu Mu’azu-led PDP, he was able to pin him(Mimiko) down by forcing him to honour his agreement with PDP.
Calling on the remaining members of the LP, the APC said, "For us in the Ondo APC, our doors are open for people to join our great party, APC, for some credible individuals that are still in the LP, especially the House of Assembly members, some serving commissioners and also many PDP members that are not comfortable with Mimiko joining the PDP just because of his political antecedent".
