The Toru-Ebe State Creation Movement, yesterday, said the quick fix to the ongoing bombings was for the Federal Government to create Toru-Ebe State for the Ijaw in the western flank of Niger Delta inhabiting Edo, Delta and Ondo states.
In a statement issued by the Toru-Ebe State Creation Movement and signed by its Secretary, Okokolo Carter, the group alleged that Ijaw people in Warri (Delta) and Edo states were being marginalised in area of politics and development.
“The movement came to this decision after a meeting of its working committee at Burutu town, the proposed capital of Toru-Ebe State on Saturday, July 9, 2016 to appraise the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta region with particular reference to the area covered by the proposed Toru-Ebe State.
“The meeting noted that one of the reasons for dissatisfaction among Ijaw people of the western flank is the lack of political space to express their political aspirations which in effect deny them of economic opportunities. This lack of political space is eloquently expressed in the political marginalisation being suffered especially by the Ijaw people of Edo State and those in the three Warri Local Government Areas of Delta State and Ondo State,” the statement added.
It noted that the frustration from political and under development were what gave birth to a series of crises in the region including the current militant attacks on oil facilities.
The group added, “Therefore, the Toru-Ebe creation movement call for the creation of Toru-Ebe State is to give the Ijaw people of the western flank the political space to manage their affairs and this would address so many of the frustrations which have led to attacks on oil facilities and militancy.”
