Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger state has denied asking Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido to run for president on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
LEADERSHIP reported that Aliyu made this clarification through his chief press secretary, Israel Ayegba Ebije yesterday, adding that PDP at present has a sitting president and it is not his constitutional duty to anoint anybody as presidential candidate.
He said, "I did not say what some papers allegedly published and it’s not for me to tell anybody to vie for any political office. After all, we have a president. What I told him was to prepare for greater responsibilities. We have a party with a structure and a process in place for anybody who wants to go for any position. I respect the wishes and opinion of the governor on whatever he wishes to do next but I am not asking him to go for president".
