On Friday, #Nigeria urged delegates for the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF) in #Abuja next week “not to let terror win” by cancelling on attending the forum for fear after a second bombing in the capital within the space of two weeks.

As we recall, a car bomb killed 19 people in Thursday night in #Nyanya, barely 8km from Abuja city center and just close to the bus park where a similar bomb attack killed 75 people on the 14th of April.

The bombings, along with the abduction of the 200+ Chibok girls, threaten the World Economic Forum conference, with its emphasis on Africa’s (positive) growth story.

The Nigerian government will mount a huge security operation to protect the WEF scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday.

The WEF is intended to be the African version of the Davos in Switzerland, and it will bring together international leaders, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and policy makers.

Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said in a Friday statement: “"We want to state categorically that the President #Goodluck #Ebele #Jonathan administration will not be diverted nor will it give in to these nefarious acts of terrorism

"The government has taken the strongest measures to ensure a safe forum. We ask participants not to let terror win."
