Willie Obiano was on Monday sworn in as the new governor of Anambra state. The inauguration ceremony was held at the the famous Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka and was witnessed by a large crowd of Anambra people.

Addressing Anambra people for the first time as governor, Obiano thanked the people of Anambra State for voting him and his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke in to serve them and promised that they would not disappoint.

He assured the people of good governance anchored on the development of agriculture, industrialization, oil and gas and security. He said his administration would pursue aggressive mechanized agriculture.

He also gave the assurance that the new government would re-organise the farmers to form co-operatives for massive increase in food production in the state.

The governor said that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) led government would provide an enabling environment for oil and gas development in the state. According to him, the new administration will establish a refinery in the state within one year in office.

The governor said he would strengthen security, particularly the community police, as well as ensure that other economic sub-sectors thrive to further boost the economy of the state.

He commended the efforts of his predecessor, Mr Peter Obi, which he said helped to move the state forward in all sectors of the economy. Obiano appealed to the people of the state both at home and abroad for cooperation to enable the new administration to succeed.
